Gratitude and awareness - the cure to negative thoughts

Did you catch yourself at getting into a negative mood, slowly or fast, despite things seemed to go well? Did you notice how some unpleasant and indeterminable negativity crept in on you without really seeking it consciously?

The simple explanation why negativity so often has triumphed over positivity and a happy relaxed mood is simple:

One did not choose to stay anchored in solid ground of unchanging facts, such as life, freedom and unlimited possibilities: Basic facts that call for gratitude.

So if you are like most others, you probably forgot to appreciate basic gifts of life, and therefore made yourself an easy target of the many negative impulses that surround us.

What more is, you likely got back into the, for humans so usual, limited and controlling way of thinking which made you identify with objects and goals, causing you to punish yourself mentally for not having achieved exactly this or that.

That state of mind is equal to not accepting the only truth, the present state of things, the now as it is. By clinging to such thought patterns you actually limited yourself, your freedom and happiness.

In other words you chose the perfectionistic conditioned mindset, so characteristic of the human mind, but in reality being an illusory alien which has pervaded the privacy of the true, free and unlimited positive self.

The ego problem of humanity

Let me just be clear that I am talking about a general egoic problem of humanity as a whole. Probably some will feel offended or start wanting to defend something. But defend what???

A person close to the truth, opposed to being based on the ego, doesn’t get defensive (or offensive) when hearing new things, so that’s the test for the state of the ego: If one can stand hearing new info then that’s a good sign. To understand the truth as separate from things that are not true one needs a lot of info to know the difference. Info is not obtained with a closed mind.

A not so good sign is when one gets annoyed and irritated about new, well meant  info that doesn’t seem to fit with one’s existing world picture. That indicates a truly defensive and thus hostile personality, the root to many problems as well as health issues. It also is the reason that many remain unenlightened and see themselves as victims that continue to suffer and feel that is unfair, and what more is that others are to blame. It is also the cause of every war in the world.

On a macroscopic level it’s the epidemy of seeing things black white and being governed by fear and hostility and always striving to fit info into an egoistic picture suiting one’s own interests, instead of seeing things as part of the whole picture and be objectively observatory, the holistic way of thinking.

It is a the typical trait of a controlling mindset which is governed by a stubborn ego that insists on being right. The ego actually prevents one from ever becoming enlightened unless the suffering gets so intense that the person feels pressured to try another way of life and viewing things.

Examples of when that can happen include: Severe illness, chock from a big danger or accidents due to carelessness and hubris (you know hubris and nemesis – to be reckless which leads to a punishment). However despite of big life changing chocks and experiences, a too big ego might not be willing to learn and change. This is the case when the ego has been too well nurtured and the illusion kept too strong, meaning that even a life threatening situation will lead to the ego reinforcing it’s stubborn illusion and hostility to the world as is and nonacceptance of the life situation. This only burdens the body even more and will never lead to recovery from illness or a necessary change of things. It will ultimately lead to a worse state of things.

I mentioned that people with the egoistic and fearful mindset tend to blame others. In some way they are right that everyone is more or less involved in the course of society but what should not be forgotten is to acknowledge others as being like one self, sympathize with them and communicate on the basic level where details and blame are redundant issues: The level where we are all equal and therefore can understand each others and help, by giving space and love.

The world and the universe is basically perfect, although people following the blind and limiting ego of mankind deny it and refuse to harvest its beautiful fruits, thereby excluding themselves from divinity. It’s a selection made by people themselves.

The Cure

There is a way to get out of this dangerous circle which can cause so much pain and so many unintended bad actions, which really can make it difficult for you to ever get that true smile back on your face, once the bridges have closed behind you and things can’t be undone.

But not to worry, the past is an illusion, a history that is no longer reality unless you allow your brain to control you to keep pulling you back into the past, in other words not accepting the now as the only real existing truth. Furthermore mistakes are done from being unconscious, kind of asleep and unaware. So accept the past as it is and that it doesn’t matter since the now is the only reality which is true, and the only portal to creating a good future. Make it a conscious and deliberate choice.

What really matters, is to transform oneself and thereby have forgiveness and forgive oneself. Then the smile can stay on.
- How to Be Happy Quotes
The goal is to get oneself rooted in a basic and untouchable truth, instead of having one’s happiness depend on changing external things and superficial criterias of success.
- How to Be Happy Quotes

There are so many possible arguments for complaining that it is not the situation in itself that determines the level of inner peace and happiness: Its the way one regards them, in turn highly affected by the inner sense of appreciation versus non- appreciation. In other words: If you focus on orange cars, you will see them everywhere. You choose to bring it into your attention. It’s the same way with feeling comfortable or uncomfortable and stressed.

The trick is to never wait for some desired result to be achieved as a justification for feeling good or at peace.

The trick is to never wait for some desired result to be achieved as a justification for feeling good or at peace. You need to determine the reason for some present irritation and eliminate it immediately by observing it and realizing it is nothing: Just the mind playing self destructive tricks and games of control.

In fact you are the only one who allows it to do so. But you have convinced yourself otherwise and given power to an illusion: The subjective memory of the past and coincidental identity you cling to.

If you don’t stop up and get aware of this accumulating negativity, it might trigger a snowball effect of old negative unconscious thinking and action patterns. And you wouldn’t want to go down that alley if you could avoid it would you? Never the less thats a daily routine for most people. In many cases most of the life is lived in a complete unconscious automatic state with short burst of awakening to the true unlimited and unlimiting reality.

Anyway back to justifying feeling good with some achievement. Things never go exactly the way one plans but even if they turn out way better than expected, an already negative mind will probably not be able to appreciate it or even notice the positive turn and potential of a new situation.

Free yourself with gratitude and a positive outlook

So if you feel even slightly annoyed and start becoming perfectionistic and hyperactive to control it or start giving up everything, then stop the rat race you are in right now. Take plenty of time to remember all the things you appreciate. Plenty since you are just getting into new habits and need to kick start yourself. Make yourself comfortable and take a break from other obligations while you do this important turn.

BuddhaGratitude 300x187 Appreciation and Awareness The Path to a Universal Cure and SuccessIt can be hard to remember anything to feel gratitude about if you are in a real bad mood or you have nurtured a daily habit of negative thinking, which usually origins in childhood, and later becomes subconscious. However getting aware of those subconscious repetitive and limiting thoughts is possible.

You need to stop up and stop that never ending chattering inside your mind, coming from past programs and convictions, which for some reason you (like almost all people) have allowed to torture you daily for years, maybe for most of your life.

How? Simply by becoming aware of your thoughts and catching them in their lightening chaotic dance. Gradually these limiting and self destructive unconscious mind patterns will dissolve and allow you to make conscious positive decisions. In addition to this you’ll be able to realize your goals without fighting against your subconsciousness, once dissolved. I will clarify how another time. You are free but you need to let go of those destructive circles of unconscious blabbering causing you to sense a constant slight or strong unpleasant feeling, that never seems to go away.

That feeling comes only from one place: Your ego and false mental illusions of reality. They keep you locked inside your own mental prison. So you need to open that cage and start believing you can be free. However freedom requires some actions which are contrary to the common egoistic plans and mindset.

Freedom is a very strong and important concept and in this article I share my thoughts: Spiritual Healing Cure and Enligthenment Ideas to get Happy, Healthy and Successful

For now just take a piece of paper and write as many things on a list as you feel grateful about. If you really think this is nonsense, then you are free to continue life as most people do every day: Let’s call it the life of coincidence and constant complaining.

If you think about it, your current life situation is a precise reflection of your beliefs and those beliefs, even though being illusions, have lead you to where you are today. So did that work?

Possibly you achieved some goals, more or less planned. But does that make you happy or would you like more or something else before finally being content and consider yourself happy and successful? Did you consider that perhaps success and happiness can be defined in a deeper and sure way, likewise depending on some deeper and everlasting truth, as opposed to a passing fashion phenomenon, that looses it’s importance tomorrow.

Finally the practical approach to a life governed by positive thinking …

Make it a habbit to write down 3 things you appreciate every day and whenever you suddenly have a strong feeling of appreciating something or someone.

If your life situation seems to suck and be stuck in the land of no opportunity then don’t despair: Start appreciating the deeper things that don’t depend on short termed conditions such as certain careers or relationships. What about appreciating life, your current knowledge or present condition that could be worse?

There exists some debate regarding the difference between the words appreciate and gratitude. To avoid loosing oneself in words and thereby loosing the big perspective, just pick one. Some say that appreciation starts with gratitude and then grows into appreciating specific detailed qualities of things when supported by awareness of the same. I say words can make people blind and loose themselves in arguments.

Gratitude requires Humbleness and True Faith
- How to Be Happy Quotes

The point is to feel gratitude about basic things, such as life and its vast possibilities and beauty. True gratitude demands humbleness and faith that everything will go well, faith in God and in the unlimited opportunities. Not false faith that depends on accomplishments and wanting to thank god for achieving ones goals. Neither false faith exerted in the hope of controlling the outcome, only to be quit once goals have been achieved.

True faith is blind faith. Faith based on depth and wisdom.
- How to Be Happy Quotes

Blind faith doesn’t see failures or losses but accepts and continues in full faith to the results, no matter what form they take. It is a faith that means doing the best in a passionate way due to believing in the purpose and power of acting according to the basic laws of the universe: The laws that assure success, obtained swiftly, dynamically and with ease. Not with hardship and burdens as people used to think.

Once the foundation, the path of God, is lain out, it will be easy to accomplish goals, since one’s strength doesn’t depend on fragile accomplishments anymore.
- How to Be Happy Quotes

True success, that is achieved in a playful way, requires this pure faith and relaxed intuitive knowing that things are possible and realizable. You can say that this basic gratitude and connectedness with God and the basics of life expands into refined appreciations of the spices of life: The specific events and tastes of the daily life.

Some common reasons why many refrain from performing good changes in life include: Being comfortable with the known situation, lack of faith in changes, fear of the unknown territory of changes but not least skepticism and lack of faith that doing any effort matters if not everyone else joins the new path. If you share that idea you might benefit from uncovering your true convictions by asking yourself questions that you answer in a strictly honest way.

You could ask why you would believe that you changing some ways of life wouldn’t have any effect and why you should copy other people’s behavior and lack of insight and will. Who would you trust, them or yourself if you really wish for something and you sense it’s good? If the answer is that you prefer to stick with the views and behavior of others, then thats your conviction or you should reclaim your power back as the unique responsible person you can be.

Again as I wrote in other articles let me stress this:

No true change will ever take place if ones goals are not coherent with ones basic belief, which again should be in accordance with the basic values and truth – the way of the universe and it’s source, called God.
- How to Be Happy Quotes

When changes are based on respecting the natural current of life, suffering and hardship will end and so will egoism and stubborn resistance to the truth.

Furthermore new behaviors and trends of society spread faster than a wildfire. I discovered this truth many years ago by observing the world and society and you can easily verify it yourself. So why should the power of the word of mouth or viral marketing on the web, be reserved to only superficial common fashions and trends that have no deep roots in any truth? Why not use this for a good and meaningful and penetrating reason, ultimately benefiting our whole Earth?

One of the possible traps that endangers the positive up going spiral of appreciation is to start complaining about other peoples lack of catching up with one’s newly found sense of just and meaning. That can get one caught up with the negative circles again. Judgments isn’t the way to a status as a saint, and people craving such a title would surely do it for egoistic motives, being in conflict with the title.

No matter how wrong people may be in their way of living, we must face it that their lifestyle is just a reflection of a society based on empty superficial views and commercialism, and alone this fact makes it extremely difficult to justify accusing each other. It’s better to influence them and inspire them to changing by being a diplomat for positivity, peace and harmony, reflected in ones behavior and attitude.

So having found a new sense of self and just, should not be misused to criticize others that don’t seem to suffer as much. Neither is there any sense in feeling guilty just because some suffer more than one self.

Believing in a meaning of life also means acceptance of the state of things; accepting that everything is just as it should be now and a consequence of the past decisions of humanity as a whole. However things can become better by becoming conscious and taking conscious better decisions, as opposed to living life as a slave to circumstances and following irrational destructive movements of society.

Some suffer, some apparently not. Often suffering is better since it’s a portal to awakening and freedom. When it is realized by the individual that the ego with all it’s imaginations of pain and failure is just an illusion kept alive BY ONE SELF (by allowing the brains coincidental craziness to control one’s life and happiness), suffering will end. Suffering will end since it is based on the slave bond to the ego, which is an illusion. Then one is free.

Instead of feeling guilty when seeing other people who supposingly suffer more than one self, one can use their condition to appreciate one’s own life, not just to feel superior since that is equal to judging. Judging is the biggest hindrance to spiritual freedom and happiness.

Let me stress that there is a big difference between judging just for the sake of feeling more important one self and judging a true existing problem. Without pointing out a problem how would one ever take the decision to resolve it with alternative views and ways of living?

The problem is that often people for egoistic reasons create a self image as being someone who knows better than others such as for example having “discovered ” that judging is not good. Due to earlier having been criticized by others when feeling free to say their opinion (the time of their innocence) they have decided to believe that speaking freely about other things than the weather (or other useless not interesting things) is bad since that is equal to judging, which they have learned is bad.

So if they hear someone pointing a finger at some existing problem of society, say a problem with the mentality, causing many to suffer, these people quickly get hostile and in fact start judging the one who spoke freely. It is a dysfunctional programming of the mind and an ego based mentality of control which causes this hostile reaction. It’s a destructive circle of mutual control found in especially certain societies, which people use to limit the freedom of speech of other people, since they for some reason don’t want to hear new info or other ways of seeing things. What they want is to feel important themselves and likely at the cost of others who might have good intentions and something valuable to say.

Egoism is like that: It’s an illusion of what one is and an illusion causing one to hate others and defend oneself as being fantastic and right (especially when the chance is there to fool someone to go along with that illusion). A person with that ego based mindset might have learned to fool others into believing he is right, though in fact being far from the truth in most matters. People with that mindset will only coincidentally be right about more essential things though look convinced and full of self esteem on the outside.

They might be considered experts at some superficial levels since that is what they have felt motivated to excel on. However in terms of what matters in life, they might be completely in the dark. Many are also great at being  intellectually knowledgeable about abstract matters such as for example to become professor in philosophy, simply because that is an identity they wish to be respected for. But the basic essence of what they talk about and copy from previous true thinkers, they never will understand or respect.

Being right about things first of all requires humbleness and an objective not egoistic mind, with a genuine intention of doing the right (not only a big intention of succeding with gaining as many symbols of success as possible, such as cars, money, prestige, authoritative power, planes and even a beautiful wife). Being able to fool others doesn’t mean one is right. It means one has been able to fool others. Is that a status worth fighting for?

Try to watch drunk people. They are not very good at hiding their inner motives. Some parts of the brain actually get shut down and apparently fear dissapears and the daily strategic games of control and manipulation of others get clumsy or impossible to maintain. Therefore the saying: ‘The truth is heard from children and drunks’. While small children don’t have that sophisticated or evil back thoughts, though at times rude behavioral patterns, drunk adults tend to show their inner nature since it gets hard to hide or since the motivation for hiding it is absent during the momentanous limited reality.

Another trap that can lead to unhappiness is if one focuses on materialistic objects and possessions and evidence of power and money. That could cause one to get trapped in circles of superficiality and apparent success, not deeply rooted in the truth of life’s unlimited potential. Being rooted in such superficial views is what causes business people to jump out from buildings when loosing their wealth in times of crisis.

It might take many relapses to learn to appreciate life and the present moment, unconditioned of expectations for the future and unbound to past pain, but in complete acceptance of the current situation as is.

Perhaps you get it right immediately by accepting your current situation and that of the world. You can make a deliberate and conscious deep decision to say: “Past is past”. If you really get to believe so then you will no longer stay in the old illusion of being trapped with past and future conditions.

When you decide to appreciate, it furnishes you with energy and momentum to accomplish other goals with ease.
